Common Questions
Understanding Yoga
-
Yoga wisdom is the body of traditional teachings that guides the path of self-realization.
It helps us understand the mind, the nature of consciousness, and who we are beneath the constant activity of thought.
Practices such as āsana, meditation, prāṇāyāma, philosophy, and self-study bring these teachings to life through direct experience.
-
Yoga helps quiet the mind, regulate the nervous system, and bring us into the present moment. Even a simple practice can leave us feeling calmer, clearer, and more connected to ourselves.
Traditional yoga teaches that these benefits are only the beginning. As our practice deepens, we begin to understand ourselves more clearly, which is the true purpose of yoga.
-
Studio yoga often focuses on movement because it's the easiest part of yoga to teach in a group setting.
Traditional yoga includes movement, but also meditation, philosophy, breath practices, ethics, concentration, and self-inquiry.
Studio yoga is wonderful, but it’s also only the beginning.
-
True Yoga is any sincere practice that helps quiet the mind and cultivate awareness.
As the mind becomes quieter, we begin to notice aspects of ourselves that are usually hidden beneath the constant activity of our thoughts, emotions, and habits. As that mental noise settles, our deeper, true nature becomes clearer.
This is the heart of yoga.
-
A home yoga practice is simply the practices you return to consistently outside the studio.
It may include movement, breathwork, meditation, contemplation, mantra, or quiet reflection.
The goal isn't to do more yoga. It's to let yoga become part of daily life.

A good place to start is with clear, practical teachings that connect naturally with meditation and daily life.
As your understanding deepens, the traditional teachings become a series of maps that help you make sense of your own experience.
-
No. Yoga is a system of self-discovery based on your own direct experience. You do it your way.
There is no dogma, and no right or wrong way to experience Yoga.
Whatever your background or beliefs, you are welcome here.
About The Course
-
The True Yoga was created to solve a problem I ran into myself.
Many of us eventually feel there's more to yoga than the poses, but it isn't always clear where to go next. Different traditions, teachers, texts, and lineages each offer valuable perspectives, yet understanding how they fit together can feel confusing or overwhelming.
The True Yoga brings those pieces together into one clear path, connecting movement, meditation, Sanskrit, philosophy, and the traditional teachings into a coherent journey of self-understanding and self-realization.
-
Yes.
Whether you're simply curious or you've already completed a 200hr teacher training, The True Yoga provides a clear path into further yoga wisdom, meditation, and daily practice.
-
Yes, but not as a conventional fitness-focused class. Āsana is included as one part of a larger home practice, primarily to prepare the body and mind for prāṇāyāma, meditation, and stillness.
-
A deeply transformative Yoga journey involves both study and practice.
We’ll explore the meaning and history of Yoga, foundational philosophies, Tantra, Haṭha and Rāja Yoga, Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, Sanskrit, and other traditional teachings.
We’ll also practise āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation, mantra, mudrā, and kriyā in a structured way, with each practice helping bring the teachings to life.
The course includes a repeatable, adaptable home practice, with live guided meditations added as the community grows.
-
You don’t need to be advanced, you just need to be curious.
-
Community is entirely optional.
Some people prefer to walk this path on their own, while others find value learning alongside like-minded people.
The community offers a respectful, judgment-free space to ask questions, share insights, and support each other as our practice evolves.
-
You're not alone, and you're welcome here exactly as you are.
The āsana we practice is designed to settle the body for meditation, not to perform or push it. Every posture can be modified to suit your own body, and the deeper practices of breath, meditation, and philosophy have no physical requirements at all.
-
Everyone’s experience will be different, and no particular result can ever be guaranteed. We are all unique.
With consistent study and practice, we may begin to experience greater clarity, calm, and a quieter relationship with the mind. The noise doesn’t necessarily disappear, but our relationship to it can change, and that changes everything.
-
Books, podcasts, YouTube, and AI can all offer valuable perspectives, and I encourage you to explore. But the information is often scattered, disconnected, or presented without enough context to understand how the teachings and practices fit together.
A structured course provides a clear path from one idea and practice to the next. It helps you understand not only what to do, but why you’re doing it, and how the different parts of Yoga support each other.
It also gives you the guidance of a human teacher who has studied, practiced, and lived with these teachings over time. That lived experience makes a difference when the path is subtle, confusing, or deeply personal.
